Testimony In Practice
7 September - 25 October 2019 2024
Centrala, Birmingham
Curated by Marta Marsicka

Maciej Baczyk —a multimedia artist, co-founder of KinoManual duo, working and living in Wroclaw, Poland is telling an engaging story created from multiple perspectives, memories of life under a totalitarian regime and the system change that followed. They were inspired by family anecdotes, recollections and flashbacks that point out the importance of the year 1989 and the revolutions leading to the fall of the Iron Curtain.

The exhibition asks questions about the implications of the system change in Central and Eastern Europe. Can we learn anything valuable from the experiences of 1989, living in 2019 in divided Western Europe?

Testimony in Practice was a collaborative project which aims to collect and perform testimonies of life in a divided Europe. It promotes an exchange and collaboration between researchers and artists in different fields around the ethics and methods of using testimony. It also aims to increase public understanding of the life experiences of Central and Eastern Europeans living in the UK. Find more information here.
